Fall
Prevention Release (pdf file)
If you answer yes to any or all
of these questions, you are at risk for falling:
- In the past month, have you had any fall including a slip
or trip in which you lost your balance and landed on the floor
or ground or lower level?
- How confident are you that you will not lose your balance
or become unsteady when you…
...walk up or down stairs?
...bend over and pick up an object from the floor?
...get into or out of a car?
- Do you need to look down to see where you are going while
you are walking?
Up to one-third of older adults (65 or older)
fall one or more times a year. 20% of older adults who are injured
when they fall are admitted to a hospital. 1 in every 100 dies
as a result of the fall. The most serious types of fall injuries
include head trauma, fractures of the wrist, back or hip. By
the year 2020, the cost of falls for those over 65 will reach
$43 Billion a year.
Risk of falling is associated with balance,
medications or environment such as stairs, rugs etc.
At Central Physical Therapy, we are experts
in Fall Prevention. We will evaluate your risk for falling,
explain in detail the results of our evaluation and develop
a program for you that will help you to prevent falling.

Low Level Cold Laser Release (pdf file)
ERCHONIA LOW LEVEL
COLD LASER
The Biological Basis of Low Level Laser Light Therapy A survey
of the literature in the fields of biophysics, cell biology,
quantum physics, and biophotonics looks at nearly a century
of careful and ground breaking research on the biology of light.
Tying this work together leads to some specific conclusions:
- Living cells, tissues and entire organisms emit light in
the spectral range from infrared to visible ultraviolet
- Cells are responsive to very low levels of light, particularly
if the light is pulsed on and off
- Even a single cell photon can produce a cascade of effects
on a population of cells or tissues by a process known as
a high-speed branched-chain process or avalanche effect
- Cells respond to light in predictable ways:
- By dividing
- By migrating
- By altering their metabolism
Injury brings about damage and destruction of
cells; damaged cells produce more light than normal cells, and
this light travels throughout the organism, signaling other
cells and attracting them to the site of injury.
Some of these cells clean up damaged cells and
destroy bacteria. Others, such as fibroblasts, divide to produce
replacements for cells that have been lost. One of the therapeutic
effects of laser light is to artificially stimulate the cell-cell
communications and trigger migration and cell division. Laser
light can have a protective function by stimulating the photonic
effects of an injury without actually damaging tissues.
Disturbed tissues will scatter light and inhibit
flows of photonic energy and information needed for injury repair.
Such disturbances include:
- Scars
- Reduced circulation
- Tight muscles
- Reduced range of motion
- Inflammation
- Bruises
- Broken bones
- Injured or damaged tissues
- Peripheral Neuropathy
Laser light will restore light coherence and flows of photonic
energy for and information for injury repair Low Level Laser Light
Therapy has been approved by the FDA for treatment of pain and
inflammation

Benefits of Theravibe Whole Body Vibration
- Increased blood circulation means more oxygen and nutrition
delivered to cells, especially in areas where circulation
is poor as a result of injury or disease.
- Improved function of the lymphatic system results in improved
fluid balance throughout the body, improved fatty acid distribution
and improved immune function. The lymphatic system is the
garbage collection system for the body, so improved lymphatic
health equals more effective waste and toxin removal.
- Overall joint health, balance, coordination and flexibility
result from the influence of the gentle vibration of the joints
when standing on the TheraVibe platform. With each movement
(occurring several times per second), the ligaments around
the joint are gently stretched. The cartilage is palpated,
lubricating joint surfaces. With each vibration, a flood of
signals travels from the joint to the brain and then back
again to the muscles to maintain posture and stability. This
process improves coordination and balance.
- Increased muscle activity leads to an increase in lean muscle
mass, while the rhythmic tension of the tendons on the bones
is thought to cause of increased bone mass (or reduced loss
of bone mass), one of the most researched effects of TWBV

SPORTS MEDICINE OUTREACH PROPOSAL
School Coverage
The City of Central and its surrounding areas
have numerous schools and community organizations with athletic
programs that may be impacted with the induction of a program
dedicated to the prevention and rehabilitation of sports and
recreational injuries sustained by their members.
Coverage could include on field coverage, immediate
evaluation of injuries, referral to physicians, and coverage
of tournaments or events.
Phase 1:
On field coverage of football games by physical
therapist or athletic trainer, and coordination of physician
coverage of games.
Phase 2:
Coverage of multiple sports in multiple venues
by therapist or athletic trainers.
Coordination of Physical Examinations
Coordination of medical professionals including
physical therapist, athletic trainers, nurses, and physicians,
to complete yearly sports physicals.
Physicals could include multiple stations including height,
weight, vision, BP, musculoskeletal screen, and physician examination.
Saturday Morning Clinic
During the high school football season have
a venue where athletes can receive early detection of injuries
that have occurred in events that week. Clinic will occur Saturday
mornings from 7 or 8 am until 10 am over an 11 week period stretching
from the jamboree until the end of the regular season (unless
schools covered in outreach make playoffs).
Clinic would consist of evaluation of injury by physical therapist,
athletic trainer, or physicians. Other possible features could
include X-Ray, surgical consult, prescriptions, and physical
therapy referrals.
Education
Provide community education seminars on fitness
and injury prevention. Speak at informational meeting for athletic
teams to educate parents about services provided through the
program.
Referrals
Coordination of medical team to get athletes
the fastest, most appropriate care, and to return them to the
playing field as quickly and safely as possible. We will also
contact and assist athletes and their parents, about scheduling
prompt appointments with their physicians or imaging when appropriate.
Finally, we offer immediate evaluation and treatment upon prescription
to patients in cases where Physical Therapy is appropriate.
